In this special program, we travel back in time to evoke a chamber concert that took place in the Pesti Vigadó in 1931 when the Léner Quartet took the stage. With this event, we aim to remember the vibrant musical life of 19th-century Budapest, where renowned Hungarian and international performers shone, such as Heifetz, Marteau, Fischer Annie, Dohnányi, Szigeti, Boris Golschmann, Izidor Achron, and the Waldbauer-Kerpely String Quartet.
The program features curiosities, including pieces that are often heard today, such as Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” string quartet. The Central European String Quartet is composed of Miranda Liu, Máté Soós, Haruka Nagao, and Judit Szabó. They are all accomplished virtuosos who play together with incredible chemistry. CESQ is known for organizing a variety of innovative projects and exciting programs, including their 2018 international composition competition, which attracted 75 entries from 27 different countries in its first edition. The quartet is dedicated to performing contemporary music and collaborating with living composers. Numerous composers from around the world vie for the opportunity to have their works performed and showcased by the acclaimed CESQ.
The concert is an event at the Benczúr House Event Center.
